The latest edition of the bi-monthly business meeting of the Tema Chapter of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industries (GNCCI) was held last week, on Thursday, April 23, at the Joe Carl Hotel at the port city.
The meeting marked the last one to be held under the outgoing executive of the Tema Chapter, led by its Regional Chairman, Dr Gideon Amenyedor, whose two-year tenure in office now expires.
Last week’s meeting was attended by executives and members of the Tema Chapter, as well as the incumbent National President of the GHCCI, Stephane Abass Miezan. The gathering was addressed by the Commercial Attaché of the Egyptian Embassy in Ghana, who delivered a formal presentation.
A highlight of the meeting was the circulation to members of the second edition of the bi-yearly journal of the Tema Chapter of GNCCI, which has exclusively focused on the tenure of the outgoing executives, made up of Dr Amenyedor, Schandorf Adu Bright as Vice Chairman, and Madam Pauline Amoako as Treasurer.
This was fitting because of the huge accomplishments delivered by the outgoing executives over the past two years, whose programmes and priorities aligned with the nine-point agenda of National President Miezan, thus ensuring consistency between GNCCI’s national vision and the Tema Chapter’s regional execution.
At the regional level the Tema Chapter complemented the efforts of the national executive with regards to improving the Chamber’s brand. This was achieved by ensuring that most bimonthly meetings were well publicized through coverage by B&FT, Joy FM, as well as other local radio stations and social media platforms.
In 2025, the Tema Chapter commissioned a comprehensive survey of businesses operating within the Tema metropolis. The key findings informed the Chamber’s advocacy, capacity building programmes and stakeholder engagements.
In response to challenges related to access to finance, the Chamber organized specialized sessions in the development of bankable products, with members being trained on financial structuring and investment readiness to enhance engagement with financial institutions.
The Chamber also organized an AI training programme for SMEs as well as a 2025 national budget analysis session facilitated by the CEO of Dalex Finance, Joe Jackson.
As part of its holistic capacity building, the Tema Chamber organized its End of Year Dinner and Awards Night which was graced by Ebi Bright, the Mayor of Tema as special guest.
During their tenure, the regional chapter undertook a business mission to Togo to promote cross-border trade opportunities and economic cooperation.
As part of the national executive’s strategic plan, the Tema Region was selected to benefit from the construction of a permanent GNCCI office.
With regards to advocacy, the Tema Regional Chamber organized a high-level stakeholder engagement seminar with the Ghana Shippers Authority. The event strengthened the institutional relationship between the two bodies.
As part of efforts to modernize operations and improve member visibility, the Tema Chamber developed a comprehensive digitalized business profile, containing profiles of members businesses.
Further capacity building was achieved through training for members in business management and book keeping and a conference on the logistics sector.
The Journal, in its conclusion, asserted that “The tenure of Gideon as the Regional Chairman and his able lieutenants, Shandoff and Pauline, guided by the Regional Council was characterized by strategic leadership, strong alignment with national priorities, enhanced brand visibility, impactful capacity building, effective advocacy, digital advancement and forward-looking infrastructural planning.”
A new executive will be elected at the next bi-monthly meeting in May, who will lead the Tema Chamber for the next two years.
